Schizoid - Causes, Symptoms & Treatment


Schizoid personality disorder is a condition in which people avoid social activities and consistently shy away from interaction with others. People with it are able to function in everyday life, but will not develop meaningful relationships with others. Personality disorders are chronic behavioral and relationship patterns that interfere with a person's life over many years. People with the disorder show a flattened or restricted range of emotions, and can appear indifferent to what's going on around them. DSM-IV, which is an earlier version of DSM-IV-TR, does say that a person with Schizoid Personality Disorder may feel sensitive to the opinions of others and may even feel lonely but can not do anything about the loneliness due to the disorder. Genetics and environmental factors both come into play the causes of schizoid. SPD shares several aspects with depression , avoidant personality disorder and Asperger's Syndrome , and can be difficult to distinguish from these other disorders. Factors that increase the risk of developing schizoid personality disorder include is Suffering child abuse or mistreatment, Experiencing a childhood environment of neglect or scorn and parent or other relative who has schizoid personality disorder.
